WE'RE STRONGER WHEN WE'RE TOGETHER.

GUIDELINES

BASICS
Standard RP etiquette rules apply. This blog is 18+; nothing against younger roleplayers, but I'm over 30 and out of my own comfort, I won't be following anyone under 18 or with no age listed. No godmoding, no force-shipping, be patient. I can be very slow, and I appreciate understanding. My speed of replying has nothing to do with my desire to write with you.
I use small text, 70x60 icons, and light aesthetic formatting and sometimes some colors; please let me know if this doesn't work for you. I don't care what formatting you use ( or if you opt out of it altogether ) or if you use icons. All I ask for is cut posts and for asks to be continued in new threads if answered directly out of the inbox.I do have mains and don’t often do mains calls since I tend to like threading with people for a little while and letting mains develop naturally. Due to bad experiences in the past, I do not practice exclusivity, though I may on rare occasion have a ship exclusive. However, if you would like to be mains, let me know!DUPLICATES & OCS
I’m OC and duplicate friendly, including threads with duplicates — I'm also happy to do threads where one of us writes Eddie and the other writes Venom. I typically don’t follow duplicates first out of concern for your comfort, but if you follow I’ll almost certainly follow back.
FOLLOWING AND UNFOLLOWING
I’m selective about following back. It's nothing against you or your character if I don't follow back, I'm just busy and unfortunately can't write with everyone. I am also mutuals only. Please give me a few days to check stuff out! If I follow you and you don’t follow back within about a week I’ll likely unfollow as well.
I unfollow for my own reasons. If I'm going to unfollow I softblock, and tumblr can be awfully shady about unfollowing folks randomly so if I randomly unfollow you without softblocking, please feel free to poke me because it was probably a mistake.WRITING
I typically write anywhere from paragraph to novella, depending on muse and inspiration and situation. You certainly don't have to match length!
Memes are often the best way to get something started with me, but I am slow with them. I often reply to them over the course of a week or two as inspiration strikes. Feel free to send one or several. I'll often toss a couple options at you when sending memes.

SHIPPING
I am multi-ship and ship chemistry. I adore ships and fluff and am generally pretty amenable to shipping, but due to my own comfort I prefer to have some sort of OOC communication with my shipping partner. I’m open to most pairings as long as there is chemistry. As Eddie is mid/late 30s in most verses, romantic partners should be over 30 or close to it in most cases.
In addition, ship partners will need to be okay with Venom. They don't have to be in a ship with Venom, but they have to be accepting of their presence. Any ship with Eddie also includes Venom or else it just won't work; this makes ships complicated, sure, but it's a reality of their life.NSFW and smut will happen on this blog, though it certainly won't be all I write. I tag it with: & —— lemon. so please feel free to blacklist!MISC
I have no triggers, but triggers will be tagged with a triggername tw. If I don’t tag something you would like tagged, please feel free to send me an ask/IM with your preferred format and I’ll happily do so. While I don't typically write graphic violence, pease be aware that this blog does have canon-typical violence.
I won't follow back gender-bends or whitewashed muses, or if your blog supports any of the following: incest, pedophilia, rape, homophobia, transphobia, racism, trump/maga, etc.I have a degree of face-blindness and don't often recognize actors outside the roles I know them from. Because of this, I don't have a list of FCs I won't interact with because chances are I won't recognize them anyway. This doesn't mean I condone the actions of anyone problematic.Any hate getting sent my way will be deleted without reply, and I ask that I’m not involved in drama; I will not participate in it, and I'm not interested in hearing it. I will absolutely not participate in dash drama, callout culture, vague-posting, etc, and I will likely unfollow those who do a lot of it. I like to cultivate a positive, drama-free dash.Discord available upon request, and is preferable over Tumblr IMs. I'm often forgetful and slow with Tumblr IMs, so feel free to poke me or ask for my discord. You can also find me at shieldworn and gallantic.CREDITS

MUN
I'm Rowan, he/they, and I'm kind've a tumblr cryptkeeper. I'm 36, work at home as a technical writer, and have a five year old kiddo. I'm very in-and-out both on the dash and in chat, so slow/delayed responses are likely. This isn't anything against you, I'm just frequently pulled away! I'm most active on weekdays, and weekends are a bit more sporadic.
PORTRAYAL NOTES
Venom and Eddie will most often appear interchangeably in threads, with one in front and the other commentating in the background. They will often respond to the other, and your muse will often only be getting one side of the conversation.
Please don't assume to know about Venom unless your muse canonically knows or we've discussed it.Eddie's a reasonably well-known reporter, especially on the west coast. He's a liberal journalist with a heavy focus on the rights of the people, is anti-corporation, and has a habit of digging out dirt on those who deserve it.Venom is referred to with they/them pronouns, and most often refers to themselves in the singular with we/ours. They will rarely use me/I and it's usually during a moment of self reflection.Eddie is a reluctant hero at best. He'd rather be living without any of this lethal protector and vigilante nonsense, but, well. Venom drives him out of his comfort zones an awful lot.As this portrayal is almost fully based on the 2018/2021 movies, Eddie and Venom do not have the antagonistic history with Spider-Man/Peter Parker. They were never supervillains, they never had a vendetta against Spider-Man, they never fought him. Venom never bonded with Peter, and so doesn't have the spider emblem or his web powers, and since they were never bonded, they never learned to block Peter's spider sense.Eddie struggles hard with depression, anxiety, his own self-worth, has had suicidal thoughts, and his mind isn't always in a good place. This may reflect sometimes in threads.I take a lot of Venom's established history and symbiote lore from the 2018 Venom run by Donny Cates.

  • Notable: Numerous tattoos, mostly on arms, chest, torso.

  • Family: Mother deceased, father alive but estranged.

Eddie's got a lot of ink, and he's proud of it. His range of his tattoos goes from beautifully done stuff with a lot of sentimentality and meaning, a few he got while he was drunk, and some he regrets. He favors imagery over words, though he's got a bit of everything. The most recent one is a capital V. on his bicep. They’re mostly on his arms, back, and torso; he can cover them up when needed with a long-sleeve shirt or jacket. His left arm is covered down to the wrist, his right to the elbow. He's really proud of his body art and it's a huge means of self expression for him, and he'll gladly answer questions and show them off if asked.

Eddie grew up in an abusive, neglectful home; his father blamed him for the death of his mother and neglected and abused him throughout his childhood. He left when he was 18 to pursue journalism, and has gotten a bit of a reputation for being the type of reporter to tell the blunt truth and expose corruption regardless of consequence. He's had his own show ( The Eddie Brock Report ) that some may recognize him from. He's big on digging into societal issues, injustices, and corporate greed and corruption.Venom was booted from the Hive for their tendency to bond closely with their hosts and be "corrupted" by their host's sense of morality and form attachments. They are a more benevolent symbiote than most, but they are still dangerous. Their impulses are largely driven by and contained by their host.Eddie Brock and Venom will often appear interchangeably. They are symbiotic, and will most often appear together. When one is in front, the other will often be making commentary.

They are neither hero nor villain. They're trying. They're messy. They make mistakes. They fuck up. But they are, at the heart, protectors of the innocent.Shipping: I'm definitely open and eager to ships, but he is a little complicated to ship with. Whoever he's in a relationship with will have to have full knowledge of and be accepting of Venom. With regards to Symbrock, I HC Venom as largely an asexual being —— that said, there's no escaping the truth that Eddie and Venom are dysfunctionally codependent, and there's messy elements of love, hate, attachment, and dependence on one another, and the emotional relationship is undeniable. Venom is possessive and jealous, but usually doesn't get in the way of other personal relationships. It's a balance. It's a love story. And anyone who's in a relationship with Eddie has to come to be accepting of this messy reality or else it won't work.

VENOM

" Though we are a benevolent species, there is no literature on my home planet. And though it is our goal to make the universe better, we create no art, no music, no culture. At least, not as other civilizations would understand it. All we have are our hosts -- the beings we join with -- to forge through the cold and unforgiving cosmos with. The bond between a Symbiote and its host is sacred. They give our lives context and our existence meaning. They give us history. All we have are our hosts to tell us who we are. "
—— Venom

Venom's history is old and complicated. Colloquially known as a Symbiote, they are actually a race of people called the Klyntar. They were originally a hivemind led by Knull; the hive broke off from Knull millennia ago and caged their creator in the center of their home planet. The Klyntar are a people who depend heavily upon their host. Venom was initially booted from their hive because of their tendency to form intense bonds and be 'corrupted' by their host.Eddie Brock is not Venom's first host by far, but he is Venom's ideal host, and that's why they will go to any means necessary to protect him. They have a fierce love for Eddie; it's a complicated kind of love, messy and jealous and fierce, but it is love regardless. They are stronger together. They complement each other; they strengthen each other's weaknesses. They are trying. They don't know the rules of humanity, and so lean on Eddie's morality more often than not. They may often seem belligerent, aggressive, cruel, and angry, but they are someone who is coming to understand humanity and their place in the world.

Venom's true name cannot be pronounced; it's an emotional frequency they can project on their host or on others they trust. Their emotional frequency is something akin to that barest first trickle of hope after tragedy; the first green of growth after monumental disaster. It's sad, it's beautiful. They frequently refer to themselves as we/us/our, etc. Part of this is because of their attachment to their host, but also because while they aren’t connected to the hive anymore, they were for millions of years and individualistic thinking is hard to wrap their mind around. They do use I/me/etc very rarely, and usually it’s during moments of high emotion, a deeper moment of vulnerability, or during a rare moment of self reflection. It’s new for them. They are an entirely agender being. They often reflect their host, but they don’t identify as anything but Venom. Symbiotes also reproduce asexually and spontaneously, usually after losing part of their bio-mass; they don't experience sexual desire or relationships as humans see it.
